Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc. and ICL Specialty Fertilizers Expand Distribution of Recycled Nutrients into New Territories
Strategic Partnership with ICL Specialty Fertilizers Builds-Off Success of Crystal Green in Global Market
VANCOUVER, CAN and THE HAGUE, NL – [February 27, 2020] – Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc. (“Ostara”) announced today it is extending the term of its strategic partnership agreement with ICL Specialty Fertilizers (“ICL”). This partnership is supported by increasing demand for Ostara’s innovative recycled phosphorus line, Crystal Green®, sold by ICL as Sierrablen Plus with Pearl Technology. Under the agreement, ICL will continue to sell and distribute Sierrablen Plus with Pearl Technology into the Turf and Landscape markets in the United Kingdom and European Union while also expanding distribution into The Nordics, Australia and New Zealand.
Partnership Supports Growing Demand for Recycled Specialty Fertilizers Led by Crystal Green
ICL Specialty Fertilizers is a global leader in the production of sustainable nutrition and plant protection products for the Horticulture, Specialty Agriculture, Turf and Landscape markets. Ostara’s partnership with ICL comes in response to a growing demand within the market for agronomically superior products — made from recycled sources — that improve both the environment and the bottom line. This partnership supports ICL and Ostara’s commitment to sustainability by responding to industry challenges with a recycled product that exemplifies the circular economy.
Sierrablen Plus with Pearl Technology is named after Ostara’s propriety Pearl® nutrient recovery technology. With 22 nutrient recovery facilities around the world, Ostara’s Pearl technology recovers phosphorus and nitrogen from wastewater for reuse — transforming them into the Crystal Green sustainable crop nutrition product line.
“Crystal Green is not just phosphorus, it’s a game-changer… and expanding our distribution relationship with market-leader ICL supports the momentum for recovered nutrients in the market,” says Rob van Spingelen, Director of Business Development for Ostara in EMEA. “Crystal Green products are lower in salt and heavy metals, non-reactive, and continuous release. By transforming recovered nutrients into agronomically and environmentally superior products we give our partners and our planet a competitive advantage.”
In addition to ICL Specialty Fertilizers, Crystal Green is sold into the turf and agriculture markets through a strategic network of distributors including Taurus Agricultural Marketing in Canada, and more than 70 select retailers throughout the United States and Europe.
About Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc.
Ostara reimagines resources, helping the world clean water to grow more food. The Company’s Pearl® technology recovers phosphorus and nitrogen—from industrial, agricultural, and municipal water streams—and transforms these nutrients into a line of premium, sustainable fertilizers under the Crystal Green® brand. Sold into the agriculture and turf sectors through a network of established distributors in North America and Europe, Crystal Green® is the first continuous-release phosphorus fertilizer to release nutrients in response to plant demand. The Root-Activated™ granules are proven to increase yields across a wide variety of crops and soil pH, enhancing soil health while significantly reducing the impact of phosphorus tie-up and runoff. Ostara’s circular solution helps improve food security and protect local waterways from nutrient pollution. To learn more about how Ostara is closing the loop on phosphorus, visit ostara.com.
