Ostara’s Pearl® technology removes phosphorus and ammonia from municipal or industrial wastewater streams and transforms them into a highly pure, slow-release, environmentally friendly fertilizer called Crystal Green®. The technology provides a closed-loop solution: nutrients in wastewater are recovered, in effect protecting natural waterways from excessive discharge, and transformed into a unique, slow release fertilizer – subsequently preserving an essential resource (phosphorus) essential to the growth of the world’s food supply, and protecting local waterways from excessive nutrient leaching and run-off.
Ostara is the only Canadian company to be named to the World Economic Forum’s 2011 class of Technology Pioneers, and has been named a Global Cleantech 100 Company in both 2009 and 2010 by The Guardian, a London-based media group.
