Washington County sewer utility, Canadian partner open second plant to make fertilizer
CRYSTAL GREEN TO BE MADE IN HILLSBORO
Washington County’s sewer utility and its private-sector partner will open a second plant to make fertilizer from treated sewage.
Following on the heels of their first plant in the Tigard area, Clean Water Services and Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies are opening a second Nutrient Recovery Facility. This one will be in Hillsboro, adjacent to the sewer authority’s Rock Creek Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The new plant, larger than the one in Durham, also will manufacture Crystal Green fertilizer.
Ostara is a Canadian company founded in 2005 that uses a nutrient recovery technology developed at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
